Prime Lambs

Lancaster weekly sale of prime lambs had an increased entry of 561 forward selling to an improved trade, with an average of 171p/kg achieved and lambs weighing between 39-45kg averaged 177p/kg. All Beltex lambs forward averaged 209p/kg with all Texels forward selling to a market average of 179p/kg. Plenty of pens of better conformation lambs sold in excess of 200p/kg. Beltex lambs sold to 216p/kg or £95 purchased by Gregory Williams Butchers of Lancaster from S Rossall, Over Wyresdale, with others from the same home selling to 207p/kg or £93. AG Butler sold Beltex lambs to 212p/kg or £89, with KA Purtil of Wigan selling his Beltex lambs to 207p/kg or £85. Texel lambs sold to a top of £99 from R & DL Cornthwaite, Nateby for lambs weighing 49kg and 48kg Texel lambs from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof selling to £93.50 and £90 for lambs weighing 44kg. J & R Waller, Killington sold 45kg Texel lambs to £92 with others from the same home selling to £89. Plenty more pens of Continental, good conformation and heavy weight, lambs sold in the mid to late eighties. Heavy weight Suffolks sold to £89 from G Riley, Bolton-Le-Sands with others selling to £88 and £85.50 from HJ & BE Kelsall, Gressingham. Hill bred lambs saw Cheviots sell to £84 and £77 from TR Prickett with Mule lambs topping at £73 from DJ Casson and Son, Slyne.

Cast Sheep

There was an entry of 62 cast sheep forward today meeting a slightly sharper trade. Topping the market was TR Prickett, Hutton Roof selling Texels to £93 and £84 with other Texels to £87 from J & H Huddleston, Brookhouse. Leicester ewes sold to £69 from T Ayrton and Sons, Over Wyresdale. Mule ewes sold to £60 from HJ & BE Kelsall, Gressingham. Best horned ewes were selling easily in the mid-forties.
