Cast Sheep sell to £113 and Prime Lambs to £103

Prime Lambs
The weekly sale of Prime Lambs at Lancaster had an increased entry of 702 selling to an overall market average of 206p/kg. Lambs with good confirmation and well fleshed lightweight lambs were in strong demand. The trade was topped today by 47kg Charollais lambs selling to £103 from Steph Cowgill of Bentham. Texel lambs sold to £99 twice from H Birkett & Son of Overton and DJ Casson & Son of Slyne with other texels to £97 from E Lund & Son of Ingleton and £96.50 from P Lawrenson & Son of Chorley. Suffolks topped at £96.50 from DJ Casson and Son of Slyne. Beltexs twice sold to a top of £94 or 235p/kg from S Wilson & Son of Scotforth. Lightweight lambs continue to be in strong demand selling regularly in excess of 210p/kg.

Cast Sheep
The cast sheep trade continues to improve with best types of ewes regularly selling in excess of the £100 mark. A better number of just shy of one hundred forward saw all buyers keen to purchase. Texel ewes consigned from J Burr of Quernmore sold to £113 and £104 twice and Suffolk ewes from the same home to £100. BR & S Carter of Pilling consignment sold to £102 for Texel ewes. Best Mule ewes sold to £90 from D & D Huddleston of Wray with plenty of other pens of good Mule ewes selling in the early eighties. Horned sheep topped at £64 for Swaledales from A & L Huddleston of Wray.
