Store Cattle

Store cattle sold to £1250 for Aberdeen Angus x steers from W & A Cardwell, Poulton-Le-Fylde with other pens of short keep steers £1050 to £1150.

Younger steers sold to £940 for British Blues from RW Ewan, New Hutton and Black and Whites sold to £1010 from L Parsons & Sons, Levens.

Heifers sold to £1110 for British Blue x from MJ Shepherd & Sons, Pilling and Aberdeen Angus x L Parsons & Sons, Levens with other stronger sorts £940 to £1050.

Weight restrictions at abattoirs now showing in the store market with heavy cattle peanalised. Buyers keen for cattle the week after asking for a stronger entry next week. Please enter by Monday 12 noon for catalogue.

OTM Cattle

Fine weather kept many farmers in the fields which meant a smaller number of OTM cows forward but to the usual ringside of buyers.

All cows forward averaged 108p/kg with ¾ of the entry being dairy cows. Top priced was a Limousin x from W Atkinson, Crook selling at 141p/kg. Dairy cattle sold to 127p/kg from JT Wilson, Lancaster with other meated sorts 120p/kg to 125p/kg, mediums sold 110p/kg – 118p/kg with parlour sorts less.

Top crossing cow was £965 for a Limousin x from W Atkinson & Son, Crook and dairies to £934 from G & ME Woodhouse, Ellel.

OTM heifers sold to 151p/kg & £949, OTM steers 169p/kg and £1016. Cull bulls sold to 134p/kg & £1345.

Calves and Stirks

The sale of calves saw a reduced entry forward due to farmers taking advantage of the fine weather.

An abundance of native bred calves sold to £315 for a Hereford x Bull calf for Wallbank Farms Ltd with others to £275 from H & VE Jolley. Younger bull calves £180 to £270 to include a British Blue at £270 from RT Robinson.

Heifers sold to £260 for British Blues from Barker Farms Ltd with a Limousin x £220 and Aberdeen Angus x £205 from RT Robinson.

Dairy Bulls sold to £145 with an entry of mainly younger calves forward averaging £49.
