Lancaster Livestock Auction: Store Cattle - Friday 14th June

Store Cattle

Lancaster Friday saw an increased entry of 242 selling to a very similar trade. This week the trade topped at £1330 for Limousin bullocks from DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland with other Limousin bullocks selling to £1300 from J Prest & Son, Bay Horse. Angus bullocks topped at £1290 from J & H Davis, Cabus. J Prest & Son sold Simmental bullocks to £1290 and Limousin bullocks to £1280. Heifers sold to a top of £1120 for Angus’ from JD & GM Bracken, Catteral with British Blues selling to £1110 from H & C Pickervance, Roseacre with other Angus heifers selling to £1100 from J & JM Walmsley, Pilling. Dairy bred bullocks saw Montbeliardes sell to a top of £1070 from JM & AG Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe, with black and white bullocks from the same home selling to £1050. Other black and white bullocks sold to £1020 from W & A Cardwell, Stalmine with a consignment of bullocks from W & A Cornall, Barnacre selling to £1000.

OTM Cattle

There was an increased entry of cast cows this week with 118 forward selling to a similar trade with a larger quantity of dairy and parlour cows forward reflecting in a lower market average of 110p/kg. Topping the OTM ring this week at 171.5p/kg was OTM British Blue bullocks from Oatland Farms, Isle of Man with OTM Heifers selling to 157.5p/kg from Raby Contractors of Cabus. Cows sold to a top of 159.5p/kg or £1036 from AR & BJ Thompson, Selside. Black and whites saw OTM heifers sell to a top of 144.5p/kg from J & M Sanderson, Kirkham, with best cows often selling around the 120p/kg. Cast Black and white bulls sold to a top of £1016 from RE & EA Barker, Arkholme.

Calves and Stirks

There as a bumper entry of 88 calves and stirks forward this week that saw all sold sell to a strong trade. Calves sold to a top of £365 twice for Limousin and Angus bulls from Tom Barron Farm Ltd, Wood Plumpton. British Blue bulls sold to £350 twice from Lawson Farms, Cockerham and J & M Sanderson, Kirkham. May born Limousin bull calves sold to £340 and £335 from B & MJ Nelson & Son, Milnthorpe. Heifer calves topped at £330 for Limousins from Tom Barron Farm Ltd with British Blues to the same price from GH Sanderson & Family, Catforth. Plenty of Continental beef calves selling around the £300 mark. Month old Angus bull calves sold to £290, £285 and £280 from FW Rhodes & Son, Ellel. Black and white calves this week sold a top of £78 from GH Sanderson & Son.

There was plenty of demand ringside for stirks that saw British Blue heifers sell to £840 from JE Harrison, Greenhalgh who sold British Blue bullocks to £670. Weanling British Blue bullocks sold to £500 from PS & H Eckersley, Mellor.
