Spring Lambs
The weekly sale of Prime Lambs had an increased entry of 568 forward selling to a similar trade to the previous week with a market average of 230p/kg. Topping the market today was Texels from D & D Huddleston, Wray selling to £110, Suffolks from J Lamb, Old Glasson sold to £108. Texels sold to £105 three times from T & ME Longton & Son, Quernmore, PD Anderton, Scorton and PW & DW Roskell, Pilling who also sold Charollais to the same price. Other Texels sold to £104 from WM Pye, Ashton with Stodday and also from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth. Beltexs topped at £103 from BR & S Carter, Pilling and S Wilson & Son. Plenty of good conformation lambs selling around the £100 mark at Lancaster today. Top pence per kilo this week was 259p/kg for Beltexs from S Wilson & Son followed by 258p/kg from BR & S Carter, with Texels to 254p/kg from WM Pye & Son. Plenty of lambs easily achieved 240p/kg plus.
Prime Hoggs
There was a smaller entry of Prime Hoggs as we now come to the end of the season with less demand seen. The market topped at £70 for Continentals from A & L Huddleston, Wray.
Cast Sheep
There was an entry of over 100 cast sheep forward at Lancaster once again this week. As Ramadan comes to an end this week there was less demand for Cast Ewes as many had already fulfilled their orders. Topping the market today was a Beltex x ram selling to £94 from J Lamb, Old Glasson. Ewes sold to a top of £90 twice for Charollais from WG & RG Riley, Chorley with Lleyns selling to £87 and £86 from the same home. Texels sold to £80 from BR & S Carter, Pilling with other Texel ewes to £79 from A & E Clarkson, Thurnham. Mule ewes topped at £71 from A & FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel with others to £68 from CJ Metcalfe, Ingleton and CF Hargreaves, Overton.
Sheep with Lambs at Foot
There was a smaller entry of Sheep with Lambs at foot as the season begins to draw to a close. This saw Mule Hoggs with Texel lambs at foot sell to £138 and £136 twice from W Pinder Jnr, Newton in Bowland.
