Spring Lambs
There as a smaller entry of Prime Lambs forward this week of 598 selling to an overall market average of 194p/kg. Best conformation, heavy weight and light weight lambs were in strongest demand at Lancaster. Topping the trade today at £103 was AG Butler, Hambleton for Texels who sold other Texel lambs to £100. RH & C Ayrton Ltd, Abbeystead sold Beltex lambs to £100 and Texels to £98.50. Texel lambs sold to £100 from Bargh Contractors, Heaton with Oxcliffe this was closely followed by P & V Bennett, Lancaster selling to £99 with other Texel lambs selling to £98 from A & E Clarkson, Thurnham and CD & HL Mason, Caton Green. Plenty of other pens of heavy weight lambs sold around the £90 mark. Texel lambs sold to a top of 238p/kg from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth with Beltexs from the same good home selling to 236p/kg purchased by Gregory Williams Butchers, Lancaster. Other Texel lambs sold to 233p/kg from A & E Clarkson with others to 231p/kg from Bargh Contractors. Light weight lambs weighing from 32-39kg sold to a market average of 201p/kg with heavy weight lambs weighing 45kg upwards averaging 198p/kg.
Cast Sheep
Cast sheep continue to sell to a similar trade topping the market today was AG Butler selling Charollais to £102. A consignment of Ewes from MJ & K Ayrton, Thurnham sold Texels to £99, £91 and £90, twice. Plenty of Continental ewes easily sold around the £90 mark. Texel cast tups topped at £98 from CD & HL Mason, Caton Green. Mule ewes sold to a top of £76 twice from WM Pye, Ashton with Stodday and RH & C Ayrton Ltd, Abbeystead. This was closely followed by Mule ewes selling to £75 from A & J Rhodes, Ellel and T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale. All Mules forward averaged £72.08. Swaledale ewes sold to a top of £56 from A & L Huddleston, Wray with others to £54 from JR & J Gorst, Quernmore. All Swaledale ewes forward averaged £48.
