Prime Hoggs
The weekly sale of Prime Hoggs saw a slightly larger entry forward this week with a larger proportion of hill bred and heavy weight hoggs forward leading to a lesser average of 182p/kg. Topping the trade today at £98 was Texel hoggs from GH Sanderson & Family, Catforth with others from the same home selling to £96. Heavy weight Continental Hoggs topped at £90 from WTC Farms, Preston. There was plenty of pens of hoggs selling in the mid to late eighties. Hill hoggs sold to a top of £83 for Cheviots from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead with Mules achieving £80 from Bargh Contractors, Heaton with Oxcliffe. Plenty of pens of Mules sold in the late seventies. Swaledales sold to a top of £76 from KM & KJ Curwen.
Cast Sheep
A larger entry of ewes this week were met with a sharper trade. Vendors are advised that buyers 7re very cautious of over fat ewes. Topping the trade today at £77 were Suffolk ewes from AG Butler, Hambleton who sold Continental ewes to £70. Mule ewes sold to a top of £55 from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe. Hill ewes saw Cheviots sell to a top of £56 from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead with Swaledale ewes from the same home selling to £46.
