Store Cattle

There was a mixed entry of Store Cattle forward this week with a good number of over 400 on the catalogue. All store cattle forward sold in excess of £1000. The sale leader today was H Morgan, Stalmine with a British Blue bullock. Other Continental bullocks saw Limousins sell to £1300 from DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland with British Blues from WA Cornall, Barnacre selling to £1280 and £1270 for British Blues. Native cattle saw bullocks top at £1320 for Herefords from JS & KM Wilson & Son, Kendal with Angus’ selling to £1310 from W & A Cornall and £1300 from WG Farms, Cockerham. There was 44 cattle that sold for £1200 or more. Heifers sold to a top of £1220 for British Blues from JS & KM Wilson & Son. Native Heifers sold to a top of £1140 for Angus’ from K & DE Woodhouse, Ellel. Black and White bullocks topped at £1160 from J Hesketh, Preston with others selling to £1120 from W & A Cornall.

There was a few more bulls on offer today in the ring that saw Hereford bulls sell to a top of £1070 and £1050 from SJ Rushworth, Oswaldtistle.

OTM Cattle

Cast cows this week had a slightly smaller entry forward but still a good number of 131 being sold through the ring. Continental beef cows were dearer this week with other types of cows a similar trade. Leading the way today was OTM Limousin Heifers from JC Prickett, High Bentham selling to 189.5p/kg closely followed by Angus heifers selling to 184.5p/kg or £1107 from GR & A Foy, Conder Green. Cast Cows sold to a top of 164.5p/kg for Limousins from E Dodgson, Kendal grossing £1398. British Blue cows sold to a top of 157.5p/kg from GR & A Foy, with Friesians selling to 157.5p/kg from DH & M Kellet & Son, Thurnham. Over 10% of the cattle in the cast ring today sold in excess of £1000. There was an overall market average of 115p/kg with all milk cows forward averaging in excess of 100p/kg.

Calves and Stirks

Calves this week at Lancaster sold to another strong trade in which more are required, especially black and whites to fulfil buyers requirements. Leading the way today in the calf ring was Angus bull calves from WR Clarke & Partners, Yealand Redmayne selling to £320. This was closely followed by £315 for British Blue bulls from JM & MH France & Son, Littledale. DJ Hay, Cockerham sold Angus bull calves to £285 with Angus heifers selling to £265. Plenty of Beef calves sold in the mid two hundreds.

Black and white bull calves sold to a top of £130 and £125 from DJ Hay, plenty of Black and white bull calves selling in the mid £60 to £80 mark, with more needed.

Just a couple of stirks on offer today saw black and white bulls sell to £205 from RT Halhead, Cockerham.
