Lancaster Livestock Auction: Dairy Cattle - Tuesday 20th August

There was a tremendous atmosphere in NWA Lancaster today for the monthly dairy sale.

A combination of an excellent catalogued entry, coupled with a tremendous crowd from far and wide ensured a fabulous trade, resulting in an overall average of £1977.50 for fresh calved cows and £1908 for heifers, with a consignment of well-grown in-calf heifers returning an average of £1464.

Taking the Championship under today’s judge Kelly Hill, Wrexham was regular supporter MJ & H Atkinson, Quernmore with an outstanding Wiltor Dreamer daughter out of the top cow family at Wyredale. The successful purchaser of this much-fancied heifer selling at £2650, was David Wallbank, Over Wyresdale.

Next in line was another Lancaster regular Messrs Drinkhall Bros, Over Wyresdale who sold Pennine Moonbeam at £2350. This Bertaiola Mincio daughter sold to Bradley Farms, Poulton Le Fylde. At £2200 Bradley Farms were back in action taking a tremendous non-pedigree heifer from Messrs WG & RG Riley, Chorley sired by Alta Spring. Also trading at £2200 was a super second calver from Messrs Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, Bilsborrow, sired by Ballycairn Supersire Corinthian, taking this one home was Mr A Wilson, Fife.

The next sale of pedigree and commercial dairy cattle will be held on Tuesday 17th September including a special show and sale of Holstein Friesian Breeding Bulls. Entries for the catalogue close Tuesday 10th September at 12noon.
