Prime Lambs
There was an increased entry of Prime Lambs forward this week that saw good quality lambs selling in strong demand. Best heavy weight Texel lambs sold to £92 from JM & MH France and Son of Littledale with other heavy weight Texels to £90 from T Ayrton and Son of Over Wyresdale. Best conformation lambs continue to be in demand at Lancaster topping at £91 or 207p/kg twice for Beltex lambs from Bargh Contactors of Heaton with Oxcliffe and BR & S Carter of Pilling with other Beltex lambs selling to 200p/kg from IT Richardson of Catforth. Texel lambs twice sold to a top of 200p/kg from TR Prickett of Hutton Roof with other Texel lambs to 198p/kg from Bargh Contractors. Well-finished lambs, that have been fed, continue to sell well with leaner and grassy type lambs harder to place, with those who have fed their lambs reaping the benefits today. Mule lambs sold to a top of £70 from B & SE Carter of Ellel.
Cast Sheep
There was an increased entry of cast sheep forward this week selling to a slightly sharper trade then the previous week with more buyers present following on from the festival. Texel ewes sold to a top of £91 from GR & RA Surtees of Stodday whom sold tups to £74. Mule ewes topped at £54 from R Doran of Winmarleigh with horned sheep topping at £40 for Swaledales from JC Morphet of Hale.
Store Lambs
There was a decent entry of Store Lambs forward for the sale at Lancaster today with something for everyone, to suit all pockets. Top price today was from IT Richardson, Catforth with a smart pen of Beltex x lambs selling to £65. Strong Texel x lambs sold to a top of £62.50 from PM & ST Entwistle, Abbeystead. Hill bred types sold to a top of £56 from W Pinder Jnr, Newton in Bowland. Mules today sold to a top of £55 from AC & K Pye, Abbeystead.
Store Lambs today averaged £51.50.
