Store Cattle

There was more Store Cattle this week with over 300 forward with the continued wet weather taking its toll on the cattle and a leaner entry forward. Leadig the way this week was Angus bullocks from JE Harrison, Forton selling to £1180. Continental bullocks saw British Blues sell to £1170 from W & A Cornall, Barnacre, with Limousins to the same price from J Hartley & Sons, Westhouse. The consignment from EW & CR Clegg & Sons, Stalmine saw Angus bullocks sell to £1160 with British Blue bullocks achieving the same price. Other Angus bullocks sold to £1160 from JD & GM Bracken, Catterall, JS Clark & Sons, Catforth and SJ Brass, Inlgeton. Heifers sold to a top of £1050 for Stabilisers from HA Sawrey & Son, Great Urswick with Herefords to the same price from J Hartley & Sons, Westhouse. Dairy bullocks sold to a top of £1060 for Montbeliardes from KH & D Holden & Son, Pilling with black and whites selling to £1040 from J Hartley & Sons, Westhouse.

OTM Cattle

There was a larger entry of 137 cast cows this week with the trashy weather starting to take effect seeing many people off load lean cows before the winter months. Best meated cows continue to be a good trade. Leading the way today was OTM Heifers selling to 179.5p/kg for Limousins from T & M Halhead, Priest Hutton with Simmentals selling to 174.5p/kg from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet. Cows twice sold to a top of 159.5p/kg for Bazadaises from BD & PM Gill & Son, Ingleton and Limousins from GA & A Atkinson, Cantsfield. Black and white cows sold to a top of 129.5p/kg from Lawsons Farm, Cockerham with plenty more selling in the mid to late one hundred and twenties. Simmental cows sold to a top of £1137 from Chris McGuckin with Stabiliser cows selling to £1109 from A Dixon & Son, Selside. Black and white cows sold a top of £1020 from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcliffe.

There was an overall market average of 115p/kg.

Calves and Stirks

There weekly sale of calves had an entry of 82 forward this week selling to a very competitive trade especially with the prime and store cattle trade recently. Leading the way this week was a consignment of British Blue calve from J & G Thornley, Kirkham that saw bulls sell to £360 and £335 and heifers to £310 and £305. Limousin calves sold to £335 for bulls and £330 for heifers from B & MJ Nelson & Son, Heversham. This was closely followed by Limousin bull calves to £295 from Tom Barron Farms, Wood Plumpton who also sold British Blues to £290. Angus bull calves twice topped at £290, with Angus heifer calves selling to £255 from Wallbank Farms. Angus bull calves sold to an overall market average of £278.75, British Blue bulls sold to £270.63, Limousin bulls averaged £259. All beef heifer calves forward averaged £220. Dairy bull calves saw Fleckviehs sell to £185 and £180 from JS & KM Wilson & Son, Kendal with Montbeliardes selling to £155 from JR Pye, Poulton le Fylde. Black and white bull calves sold to a top of £120 twice from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale and RE & P Miller, Barnacre with other black and white bull calves selling to £110 from CG Birkett, Carnforth with plenty of other strong black and white bull calves selling around the £100 mark. All black and white calves forward averaged £66.
