Store Cattle

There was a larger entry of Store Cattle forward this week selling to a good trade for all types of cattle. Leading the way this week was a pen of five Angus bullocks from L Parsons & Sons, Levens selling to £1270. Angus bullocks also sold to £1260 from J & M Waller, Killington, and twice to £1240 firstly, once again, an increased number of cast cows at Lancaster which saw meated cows sell to a sharper trade. OTM Heifers topped the market at 184.5p/kg for British Blues from Wallbanks Farms, Over Wyresdale which grossed £1217. Beef Cast Cows sold to a top of 161.5p/kg for South Devon cows from Lucas Breeding, Adlington which topped at market at £1348. This was closely followed by a British Blue cow from A & P Hodgkinson, Stalmine selling to 157.5p/kg or £1189. Black and whites sold to 149.5p/kg for young cows from R & V Walmsley, Cockerham with plenty of other good meated dairy cows selling in the early 130p/kg mark. Dairy cows sold to a top of £1212 for Brown from JD & GM Bracken, Catterall and secondly from J Oddie & Son, Blackburn. Simmental bullocks sold to a top of £1220 for a pen of five from R Escolme, Bay Horse. Plenty of big bullocks easily sold into the eleven hundreds. Black and white bullocks sold to a top of £1020 from JM & AG Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with others to £980 from TW Nelson & Son, Stainton. All bullocks forward in the market today averaged £1003. Heifers topped at £1130 for British Blues from JD & GM Bracken, Catterall with Angus heifers selling to £1120 for a pen of four from D & N Davis, Nateby.

OTM Cattle

There was Swiss’ from AW & AM Park & Sons, Ellel with Friesian to £1150 from the same home. Also selling over £1100 was black and white cows achieving £1105 from Wallbank Farms, with others to £1038 from W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe.

There was an overall market average of 115p/kg with plenty of buyer’s ringside to purchase all types of OTM Cattle at Lancaster.

Calves and Stirks

There was a smaller entry of calves forward this week selling to a continued strong trade at Lancaster. British Blue bulls led the way today with a consignment from J & G Thornley, Kirkham selling to £418 and £385. Drinkall Brothers of Over Wyresdale sold Blue bulls to £395. Blue heifers topped at £345 from J & G Thornley. A strong trade for Native bull calves saw Angus’ sell to £340 and £335 from Drinkall Brothers with Wallbank Farms selling Angus’ to £335 and £320 with Hereford bull calves from the same good home selling to £300. Limousin bull calves sold to £290 from B & MJ Nelson & Son, Heversham with plenty of beef calves selling in the two hundreds.

Black and white bull calves topped at £88 twice from Drinkall Brothers with others selling to £82 from Wallbank Farms and WN & D Smith & Sons, Cockerham.
