Prime Lambs
The weekly sale of Prime lambs at Lancaster had an entry of 440 forward which sold another competitive trade. There was an overall market average of 161p/kg with an SQQ average of 170p/kg. There was a large quantity of 46kg plus lambs on the market nation wide with 38kg to 42kg in short supply leading to a larger demand. Trade today topped at £91 for Texel lambs from TR Pickett, Hutton Roof, with other Texel lambs selling to £85 from Bargh Contractors, Heaton with Oxcliffe and others to £83 from PM & ST Entwistle of Abbeystead. Top price per kilo was 193p/g from TR Prickett, with other selling to 190p/kg from CB Farming, Hindley. Mules sold to a top of £71 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton.
Cast Sheep
A slightly smaller entry of cast ewes forward this week, with 45 on the market. Cast ewe trade remain stagnant with rumours continuing that it will improve in the near future, however this is yet to be seen. Texel ewes topped at £81 from Bargh Contractors, Heaton with Oxcliffe, closely followed with others to £78 from J Burr, Quernmore. Mule ewes topped at £55 from A & FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel with plenty of Mules selling in the early fifties.
