Lancaster Livestock Auction: Primestock Monday 16 July

Texel Lambs sell to £103 at Lancaster

Spring Lambs

There was a slightly smaller entry of spring lambs forward this morning with the drop in price last week. Following a strong trade at Lancaster last Monday the trade was very much in line with the end of last week, finishing with a market average of 171p/kg. The trade topped at £103 for heavy weight Texel lambs from P & V Bennett of Aldcliffe with Suffolk’s selling to £96 from H Birkett and Son of Overton. Beltex cross lambs from S Wilson and Son of Scotforth sold to 209p/kg with plenty of better confirmation lambs selling in the region of 190p/kg. Once again buyers were looking for well fleshed lambs in the early to mid-forties.

Cast Sheep

An entry of over 100 cast sheep forward sold to a very similar trade to previous weeks at Lancaster with all well bid for. They topped at £90 twice for Suffolk ewes from WN & D Smith of Cockerham and Continental ewes from Ripley St Thomas of Lancaster. Cheviot Mule ewes sold to a top of £86 from S Park of Aughton with Mule ewes selling to £85 from L Dawson of Dolphinholme.
