Spring Lambs
There was just short of 700 prime lambs forward at Lancaster today. As seen in the previous week the trade has slipped nationally with Lancaster finishing up at 198p/kg average. Heavy Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £131 from TA Blair of Thornton Cleveleys. Texel lambs sold to a top of £113 from PD Anderton of Scorton. Texel lambs sold to a top of 243p/kg from Janet Simpson of Barnacre with good conformation lambs selling between 220 and 230p/kg.
Cast Sheep
An entry of 94 cast ewes sold to another brisk at Lancaster. Charollais ewes sold to a top of £105 from DR Preston of Caton. Continental ewes sold to £99 from A & E Clarkson of Thurnham. Mule ewes sold to £87 from B & J Preston of Caton with strong Mule ewes selling in the eighties. Horned ewes sold to £52 from SM & CM Bewley of Dent.
Prime Beef
There was just one prime bull in the market today but more prime cattle are required with three active prime cattle buyers’ ringside and looking to purchase. A Hereford bull sold to 204.5p/kg from P & A Bell of Pilling.
