Prime Lambs
A smaller entry of lambs in the market today where more could have been sold to the advantage of the vendors especially well finished continental and Suffolk lambs.
Good quality lambs very easy to sell with best heavy weight continental lambs from R & B Parker of High Hallbeck selling to £101 or 200p/kg. Three quarter bred Texel lambs from T Longton and Son of Rooten Brook sold to 209p/kg or £94.50. Well finished continental lambs sold over 180p/kg.
Half of the lambs forward in the market were Mule and Horned lambs. Mule lambs sold to a top of £79.50 for 47kg lambs from WI & A Atkinson and Son of Holme House with mules selling in the region of £30 above the weight. Horned lambs were best to sell over the 40kg mark selling to a top of £68 for Swaledales from KM & KJ Curwen of Marshaw Farm.
Cast Sheep
What a difference a week can make, all buyers keen and looking for cast ewes this morning and all selling to a strong trade.
Continental ewes sold into the eighties for larger types topping at £87 from M Carr of Carrisholme. Best mule ewes over the seventy pound mark topping at £71 from WM Pye of Tarnwater Farm with horned ewes from the same home selling to £46.
