BLUEFACED LEICESTER - Market Record Smashed
Today saw a flying trade for a quality consignment from an array of breeders from quality flocks all over the country. The three classes of ewes, gimmer shearlings and gimmer hoggs all have an increase in comparison to the previous year. The show was very kindly judged by Mr Adam Lawson, Hundith who had some very strong classes to place. Coming out on top with 1st prize gimmer hogg and taking overall champion was WM Hutchinson & Sons, Redgate with a top class gimmer hogg, sired by his S001 Skeughdale, producing the goods once again, which went on to make 6000gns being sold to Ian Craig of Eastgate.
Top price today, which also happens to be a record for a blue faced Leicester female at J36, went to John Lord, Hewgill, making 12000gns to Robbie Hallam, High Birkwith. This Hogg was sired by a homebred tup B041 Hewgill.
A mention also to 2nd prize gimmer hogg from Robin Booth, Smearsett which made 5200gns going to the judge, Adam Lawson. Hoggs on the whole were very good to sell with an overall average of 1750gns. J Wight & Sons, Midlock took both 1st and 2nd in the gimmer shearling class, with the reserve champion today making 2800gns to W & P Walton, Low Kinmont. 1st prize ewe, was won today by JC & E Pedley, Yore House, making 1100gns going to David Harker, Overthwaite. A mention also to Pedleys having 2nd highest price gimmer shearling at 2000gns.
There was plenty of demand for sheep of all categories, gimmer hoggs certainly took the trade today on the whole, however the clearance of ewes and gimmer shearlings was also very good, with good prices made, and with a high clearance percentage.
A special thanks, once again, to Adam Lawson for judging and a thanks to Carrs Billington, Skipton, for their sponsorship of today’s sale.
Also a big thankyou to all vendors and purchases for making a successful sale today.
