J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs & Cast Sheep, Tuesday 5th November 2024

PRIME LAMBS (Auctioneer Matthew Probert)

Fireworks in the fat lamb ring at Junction 36, prime lambs rocketed to £175 on several occasions for Texel cross from TMW&H Hodgson, Nibthwaite. Other heavy weight well finished lambs were regularly crackling away between £150 and £165. Standard weight lambs whizzed to £151 from AT Burrow & Son, Hornby on three occasions, with others nicely selling at £138 to £145.
A pen of Texel cross lambs sparkled in the ring, selling to 333p/kg from LE&A Ridding, Selside. Others crackled away at 305p/kg to 330p/kg. Lambs sold to a blazing market averaged of 298p/kg, with another good entry required next week.

CAST SHEEP (Auctioneer Will Rogerson)

Cast ewe numbers slightly less on the week but trade certainly heated up ahead of bonfire night.

- BFL’s sold to £166 from T&CM Kelsall.
- Hampshire’s sold to £160 form A&S Miles.

- Cheviots sold to £136 form TH&DM Cornthwaite.
- Mules sold to £136 form CM&CA Jackson.
- Swaledale’s sold to £102 form Bank House Farm.
- Rough Fells sold to £96 from IJ Mallinson.
All goods were keenly bid for, trade for heavy ewes remains good with mediums and lights possibly seeing the biggest lift.
