J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Fortnightly Sale of Store Lambs, Thursday 22nd September 2022.

North west auctions had an increased number of store lambs forward with 4,689 forward. A larger proportion of upland bred lambs and smaller long-term lambs with less strong short keep lambs in the market. The trade saw strong short term lambs trade continue be in strong demand and regularly selling in excess of the eighty-pound mark. Smaller long term lambers a stickier trade with a continued shortage of grass in the south and many local dairy farmers taking advantage of the good weather and continued grass growth and taking an extra cut of silage where possible with plenty of buyers looking to buy lambs in the near future and wanting them soon.

Meated short keep lambs sold to a top of £98 from S Proctor, Selside followed by a pen of strong Texel lambs from B & D Willison, Levens selling to £97. Plenty of pens of strong lambs selling in excess of the ninety-pound mark. Strong good quality beltex lambs saw plenty of bidder’s ring side selling to £95 from TM Potter, Orton followed by £94 from RA Batty, Selside with plenty others selling in the region of the ninety-pound mark. Continental and Suffolk Lambs with strength and growth that would easily be finished in the upcoming months sold in excess of the eighty-pound mark.

The larger number of upland bred lambs saw the big lambs regularly selling in excess of the eighty pound mark with longer keep ones seeing the trade being affected with the shortage of grass in the south and local dairy farmers now looking for them lambs that finish in the new year yet. Mules sold to a top of £90.50 from TLB & J Knowles, Selside with other pens to £85 from RI Dixon, Low Newton whom sold cheviot mules to £89. Horned lambs saw a pen of powerful well fleshed lambs sell to £91 for thirteen from A O’Neil, Firbank.
