The fortnightly sale of store lambs experienced a two-tier trade with strong short keep lambs regularly selling in excess of the £80 mark. Texel lambs topped the market at £92.50 from F Blenkharn, Milnthorpe, £91.50 from G&SA Edmondson, Holme, £91 from JB Dixon, Longsleddale, £90.50 from MJ&LC Lund, Quernmore with plenty more selling around the £90 mark. Suffolk lambs peaked at £90 from J&R Bell, Crook with others Suffolk lambs to £89.50 from I&ME Askew, New Hutton. Beltex lambs sold to £90 from WI Barrow & Sons, Broughton in Furness. Mule lambs peaked at £83.50 for a pen of 50 strong lambs from Fishwick Bros, Longsleddale. Pens of strong Mules regularly sold in the eighties. Cheviot Mules sold to £82.50 from TLB&J Knowles, Selside. Longer term lambs regularly sold around the seventy pound mark, the overall market average today was £75.96.
