J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Sale of Calves, Stirks, OTM and Store Cattle, Thursday 1st September 2022.

Calves & Stirks
The sale of 70 calves today at Junction 36 sold to a fast trade with new buyers around the ring, British Blue bulls sold to £410 from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth. Other British Blues sold to £400 from GCL Stephenson, Kirkby Lonsdale with the best Continental bred bulls at the £350-£380. Aberdeen Angus bull calves sold to a top of £390 for B&JM Crowe, Witherslack with Hereford bulls selling to £370 from MH&SJ Morris, Allithwaite.
Heifer calves saw a keen interest from buyers with British Blues selling to £300 from TW&EA Cottam, New Hutton. Black and Whites sold to a sharp trade with a top price of £220 from AK&BM Robinson & Son, Arkholme who also sold them to £200.
50 stirks were forward with well grown and strong stirks selling to a competitive trade with lesser sorts harder to place. Five month old Limousin bullocks sold to £750 from M&S Blease, Carnforth with Limousin heifers to £690 from the same home. Aberdeen Angus bullocks sold to a top of £740 from BJ&M Tomlinson, Preston. Store Cattle
The fortnight sale of store cattle at NWA Junction 36 saw all classes and types continue to sell to a strong and competitive trade. Steers today sold to a top price of £1350 for a Aberdeen Anugs from G Cuthbertson, New Hutton with British Blue x selling to £1325 from JBL&I Ellis, New Hutton, Hereford x steers to £1255 from S&M Cooper, Leace. Limousin x yearlings from TW Nelson & Son, Stainton achieving £1155. Dairy bred steers sold to £965 for Montbeliardes from JR Pye, Poulton Le Fylde. Heifers today sold to a top price of £1280 for an Aberdeen Angus heifer from TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe with British Blue x selling to £1195 from S&M Cooper, Lease, Parthenais x sold to £1165 from JT&A Armistead, Selside and Hereford x to £1130 from JB Jackson & Son, Allithwaite. The next sale of store cattle is Thursday 15th September to include the autumn prize show, vendors are encouraged to enter their cattle with confidence for this popular sale.

OTM Cattle
The largest entry of cull cows forward at NWA J36 sold to a fast and competitive trade with 82 cows achieving an overall market average of 167.5p/kg with two thirds of the entry being parlour type dairy cows. The top price today of 217.5p/kg was achieved by JC Walling & Son, Lyth for a Charolais x closely followed by NJ&S Wood, Windermere and J Twigge, Lindale both achieving 214.5p/kg. Heavy well fleshed beef cows regularly achieved 190p/kg-200p/kg with a keen interest of cows suitable for further finishing. Diary cows sold to a top price of 184.5p/kg for Montbeliarde from JJ&MA Parkinson, Kendal with other dairy cows to 169.5 from R&J Dodgson, Natland. Top grossing cow today was £1883 frow a Charolais x from JC Walling & Son, Lyth with dairy cows selling to £1229 from MH&AR Robinson, Old Hutton.
OTM heifers sold to 209.5p/kg and £1407 for a Charolais x from JC Walling & Son with dairy heifers to 169.5p/kg from R&A Galbraith, Crookland and £1443from JA&DE Batty & Sons, Burneside. OTM steers sold to 224.5p/kg and £1093 for a British Blue x from JW Robinson & Son, Farlton.
A single cull bull today sold to 169.5p/kg and £1849 for a Beef Shorthorn from CS Long, Grange Over Sands.
