J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Lads Night Out, Thursday 1st September 2022.

North West Auctions renowned “Lads Night Out” out sale moved back to a Thursday evening was deemed a huge success with a wonderful atmosphere throughout the evening with 243 active buyers travelling far and wide greeted with one of the best runs of tups seen at this sale a credit to all the vendors.

Texel Rams

Power and quality was in huge demand throughout the evening in the Texel section. The trade peaked at £1600 for the first prized shearling from Amanda Williams, St Helens with others from the home selling to £1300 with the run of five tups averaging £1070. The next call was £1500 for the second prized Texel tup shearling from J Woodburn & partners, Ulverston whom had an impressive pen of tups forward for the sale selling others to £1200, four to £1100 with the pen of fifteen averaging £1033.33. The annual consignment of powerful Texel shearlings from Sue Cunliffe, Grange over Sands peaked at £1000 four times with the consignment of fifty averaging £631. The consignment of Texel shearling tups from Thomas Ayrton, Cockerham twice sold to £1000. Also achieving the £1000 mark with Texel shearlings where the pen leaders from R & E Ladds, Kendal, RH & L Geldard, Gilpin Bridge, JT & J Kelsall, Clapham and WJ & VJ Case, Ulverston. There were plenty of quality shearling tups regularly selling between the eight hundred and one thousand pound marks. Aged Texel rams sold to a top of £850 from D & R Cornthwaite, Lockerbie. Texel rams lambs saw the consignment from RS & J Bradley & Son, Barnoldswick lead the way selling to £650, £550 £520 and £500.

Beltex and Crossbred Rams

A buoyant trade until the end in the Beltex and crossbred section with quality and power in demand. Topping the section and topping the sale at £2,000 was powerful great confirmation Texel x Charollais tup shearling from H Taylor, Knutsford with others from the same home selling to £1150. A cracking consignment of Beltex x tups from G Sowerby, Appleby peaked at £1,800 with others from the same home selling to £1300, £1200, £1100 (x2) and £1050 with the consignment of 21 averaging £915. The consignment of Charolais x Beltex tups from Messrs Wales, Carlisle peaked at £1,100. The consignment of powerful Charollais x Beltex lambs from JA & R Geldard & Sons, Golpin Bridge sold to £1,100 and £1,000 with the consignment of fifteen averaged £854. As seen in the Texel ring plenty of good tups selling in excess of the eight pound mark.

Charollais Rams

Charollais shearlings achieved a top price of £650 from MS&AP Lee, Arkholme who sold others at £600 with Messrs Wales, Carlisle achieving £580. All Charollais shearlings averaged £435.
A large number of lambs forward sold to £580 from J Stott, Kendal with others at £400 from S Cummings, Millom. All lambs averaged £381.

MV Rams

The sale of MV accredited rams saw IM Jaeban, Cockermouth sell Texel Shearlings to £800 with others at £600. Texel Lambs sold to £200 from the same vendor.
Several Dutch Spotted lambs forward sold to £380 from M Radford & E Robinson, Durham with other at £200 from B Barnes, Kirby Lonsdale.

Suffolk Rams

A bursting ringside of keen and eager bidders were treated to a wonderful, quality entry of Suffolks which sold to a fast and competitive trade.
Shearlings sold to £1020 from AR Edmondson, Hawkswell Farm who sold others at £900. Also achieving £900 was a shearling from RA Batty, Heversham closely followed by JH Towers & Son, Tunstall achieving £850 and TA Blair, Poulton-le-Fylde at £820. All Suffolk shearling rams averaged £598.
Ram Lambs sold to £850 for a much admired lamb from TA Blair, Poulton-le-Fylde with others achieving £680 from J&C Airey, Ulverston and £580 from S Woodend, Bootle. All ram lambs averaged £425.
