North West Auctions conducted its fortnightly sale of pigs which saw buyers in attendance looking for all classes and types. Prime pigs sold to a new market record of £245 for a Pietrain x Saddleback Gilt from J Stott, Kingsland who sold others at £205. Other heavy well finished prime pigs attracted the keenest interest with Pietrain x gilts selling to £178 and £155 from J Calvert, Carlisle with Large Black gilts from H Kent, Cockerham selling at £155 and £150. A pair of smart Pietrain x hoggs from Wendy Stamper, Chipping achieved £145.
Top pence per kilogram this sale was 233p/kg achieved by Mr J Stott, Kingsland with all prime pigs forward averaging 144p/kg. Cull sows sold to £140 and 78p/kg from R Nettleton, Penrith who sold others at £135 and £120. A small entry of store and weaner pigs sold to £19 for Large White x gilts from R Nettleton, with others selling at £15 and £10.
