J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Sale of Calves, Stirks, OTM and Store Cattle- Thursday 23rd June 2022.

Calves & Stirks
All calves sold to another fast trade at J36, British Blue bull calves sold to £455 from JS&IM Wilson, Whitbeck with Limousin bull calves selling to £400 from RJ&ML Lowery, Holker. Continental bull calves were regularly selling at the £300-£350 mark. Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to £390 from JAH Walton & Son, Kirkby Stephen with others to £340 from R Heath, Millom. Heifer calves topped at £405 for a Limousin from JS&IM Wilson, Whitbeck. British Blues sold to £400 from B&JM Crow, Witherslack. Dairy bull calves sold to £230 for a Montbeliarde from JS&IM Wilson, Whitbeck. Friesians sold to £150 from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth.
A solid trade from start to finish in the stirk ring, Limousin heifers sold to £850 from CR Alderson & Spon, Mallerstang who sold other Limsouin heifers to £770. A run of 4-5 month old British Blue Bullocks from EW&RM Towers, Hornby sold to a top of £680 with the same home selling a pen of Fleckvieh bullocks at 5 month old to £530.

Store Cattle
One of the fastest trades seen for some time at J36 with more cattle required to fulfil the orders of our busy ring of buyers. Limousin bullocks sold to a top of £1390 from JB&NB Baines, Eskdale with Charolais selling to £1360 from G&GU&D Swarbrick, Meathop. Yearling Limousins sold to £1170 from HR&KA Hodgson, Barbon with yearling Shorthorn bullocks sold to £1130 from J Turnball, Meathop.
Heifers sold to a top of £1260 from HR & KA Hodgson, Barbon who sold others to £1185. Aberdeen Angus heifers sold to a top of £1200 form S&M Geldart, Woodland.

OTM / Cast Cattle
An overall market average of 177p/kg was achieved for all cull cows forward today with over half the entry being parlour type dairy cows. The sale peaked at 224.5p/kg for a Limousin x cow from SM Watson, Ulverston with other well bred beef cows regularly selling at 200-215p/kg depending on quality and type. Dairy cows sold to a top price of 189.5p/kg for Friesians from RJ&MR Lowery, Holker with Ayrshires to 187.5p/kg and dairy Shorthorns to 174.5p/kg. Top grossing cow today was a Hereford x from AW Irvine, Ambleside achieving £1643 with Stabilisers selling to £1618 from JA&R Galdard & Sons, Levens and British Blue x to £1617 from FW Park, Windermere. Top grossing dairy cow today achieved £1357 from PW&D Swindlehurst, Underbarrow. An entry of OTM Highland bulls and steers from KA&DH Knipe, Rustland sold to 194.5p/kg and £1068. Eight active buyers ring side today competing for all classes and types, with more required to fulfil demand.
