Prime pigs sell to £128 at NWA J36
The fortnightly sale of pigs at North West Auctions J36 once again saw a large number of new and returning customers in attendance from throughout Lancashire, Cumbria and North Yorkshire. Vendors are thanked for pre entering their pigs, which allowed potential purchasers to be more accurately informed of the pigs to be forward at the sale. As a result of this a larger crown of buyers were present, with all classes and types of pigs selling to an improved trade.
The sale peaked at £128 from a pair of three quarter bred Pietrain x hogs from J Stott Jnr, Stainton who sold gilts to the same way bred to £117. C&J Bennet, Out Rawcliffe sold Pietrain x gilts at £110. L&J Tyson, Carnforth sold a Duroc x hogs and gilts at £100. Pence per kilo this week peaked at 114p which was once again achieved by J Stott Jnr, Stainton, with others at 109p/kg from J&L Tyson and Large White x hogs to 107p/kg GM&DJ Pye, Arkholme. Well finished pigs continue to sell to a premium with buyers showing caution of coloured and under finished pigs. All prime pigs today averaged 88p/kg.
A large entry of cull sows sold to a top price of £82 from TA&DH Knipe, Rusland, with others at £75 from S Roberts, Northallerton. Cull sows sold to a top price of 45p/kg again from S Roberts, with other heavy well fleshed sows generally achieving £50-£70 or 25p/kg-30p/kg, with all sold averaging 30p/kg.
The sale concluded with stores and weaners which saw a pen of ten pure bred Pietrains from S Roberts, Northallerton achieve £41, with Sandleback x stores from SP Phoenix, Preston achieving £28, weaners sold to £21 from S Roberts and £16 from RJ&R Holden, Silecroft.
