Prize winning pair sells to £100
The anniversary prize show and sale of prime pigs saw ten pairs put before our judge, local prize-winning stock women Miss A Harker, after much time and deliberation she awarded the first prize rosette to a pair of Large White hoggs from D Nicholson, Cockermouth, with second prize going to a pair of Pietrain x hoggs from J Stott, Kendal and the third prize rosette awarded to A Prickett, Farlton with a pair of Pietrain x boars. The sale peaked at £102 for heavy weight Large White x gilts from D Lord, Preesall with other gilts £75-£95 depending on weight and quality. Prime hoggs sold to £100 for Large White x from D Nicholson, Cockermouth and prime boars achieved a top price of £90 for Large White x from D Lord, Preesall. The top pence per kilo of 107 was achieved for Pietrain boars from A Prickett, Farlton. Several cull sows forward today sold to a top price of £45 from J Slone, Barrow in Furness with the sale concluding with the stores and weaners which sold to £31 from T&G McGarrell, Barnoldswick, with others £15-22 depending on quality and type.
The next sale of pigs will be held on Tuesday 22nd, going forwards there will be a new sale format with all pigs which are pre entered with the office by 12noon Monday 21st being sold first followed by sale day entries. This is to encourage vendors to pre enter pigs in good time to allow North West Auctions to canvas buyer for the sale.
