Calves & Weanlings
The summer show of calves had a nice entry of 90 calves forward, we would like to take this time to thank our sponsors Semex and Norbreck Genetics. Our pre sale judging was in the capable hands of Stan Allan, who we thank for his time and expertise. After much time and deliberation, the Champion rosette was awarded to the first prize Continental bull calf from JH Towers & Son, Tunstall, after fierce bidding this Charolais bull calf when on to achieve £530. The reserve champion went to the first price continental heifer from B&JM Crowe, Witherslack this heifer went on to achieve £320. Out of the show the calf trade was fast from start to finish with Charolais calves selling to £505 from JH Towers & Sons, Tunstall. British Blue bulls sold to a top of £450 twice from B&JM Crowe, Witherslack with all British Blue bulls averaging £330. Limousin bulls sold to a top of £415 from WS&IM Wilson, Whitbeck. Heifer calves were a sharper trade Charolais sold to a top of £425 from JH Towers & Sons, Tunstall with many of the best regularly selling over the £300 mark. Dairy bred bulls sold to a top of £380 for a run of Montbeliarde bulls from JS&IM Wilson, Whitbeck who sold others to £250. Pure Friesian bulls topped at £250 from AK&BM Robinson & Son, Arkholme.
Another nice trade in the stirks section and with buyers paying a premium for these, Charolais heifers at six months old sold to £830 from R&BJ Cleasby, Broughton in Furness. Limousin heifers sold to £680 from G&ID Postlethwaite, Howgill who sold a pen of Hereford bullocks to £680.

Store Cattle
Aberdeen Angus bullocks sold to a top of £1345 from G Cuthberson, New Hutton with a pen full of sixteen month old bullocks form FE&CM Robinson & Son, Crooklands selling to £1300. Longhorn bullocks sold to a top of £1315 from JT&A Armistead, Selside. A run of nine month old Blonde bullocks from MJ Whitworth, Bolton Le Sands sold to £1280 twice. Heifers were keenly bid for with Limousins selling to £1300 from J Twigge, Lindal. British Blue heifers sold to £1235 from JT&A Armistead, Selside, other British Blue heifers sold to £1230 from JBL&I Ellis, New Hutton. MJ Whitworth had another good trade in the heifers section with nine month old Blonde heifers sold to £900.
J36 is host to a keen ring side of buyers for all classes and types of cattle, the next sale is on Thursday 25th August.

OTM Cattle
Aberdeen Angus cows led the way selling to £1622 from JW&E Woof & Son, Firbank. Other Aberdeen Angus cows sold to £1569 from G Cuthbertson, New Hutton with Limousin cows selling to 207.5p/kg from MA&J Winn, Selside with the best end beef cows regularly selling over the 200p/kg mark. Friesian cows sold to a top of £1205 from Messrs Sowerby, Drybeck. JW Robinson & Son, Farlton sold OTM heifers to 229.5p/kg or £1553. They also sold cast British Blues to 219.5p/kg or £1495. All cast cows continue to be a strong trade at junction 36.
