The Northern Beltex Club sale sees shearling rams sell to 1800gns and shearling ewes to 1400gns.
A feature of tonight’s sale was the annual prize show and sale of Beltex sheep on behalf of The Northern Beltex Club, which this year saw the pre-sale show kindly judged by local noted breeder Mr James Wannop, Heaton-with-Oxcliffe. The championship rosette was awarded to Ainstable Felloe a shearling ram shown by Mr B Hall, Carlisle. This ram was sired by Kingledores Engleburt and out of a home bred ewe Ainstable Delux. The reserve champion rosette was awarded to the first prize gimmer shearling Ainstable Fairwell again shown by Mr B Hall and also sired by Kingledores Engleburt. The sale saw a top price of 1800gns achieved for the Champion selling to local enthusiast Miss Robyn Allen, Ings. Mr B Hall sold another shearling ram, Ainstable Fang, achieving 1100gns. Other pedigree Beltex rams regularly selling at 400-600gns.
Pedigree Beltex gimmer shearlings sold to a top price of 1400gns for the Reserve Champion Ainstable Fair Well selling to local breeder Alasdair Prickett, Farleton who also purchased Benndale Fearne from E Benn, Barnard Castle at 1000gns. Other Beltex gimmer shearlings regularly selling at 400-600gns. Boys are Back in Town
This evening’s sale included a special section for individual females which saw a top price of £500 for a Texel shearling sold by Messrs Hewson, Carlisle who sold others at £450 and £400. Aged Texel ewes sold to £280 from P & A Sowerby, Tebay. Beulah ewes sold to £270 from M Radcliffe, Derbyshire. Gimmer lambs sold to £300 for a Texel from Messrs Hewson, Carlisle who sold others at £250.
The evening sale of breeding rams, saw a ring side of buyer keen to purchase rams with power and strength for optimum prime lamb production. Texel x shearlings sold to a top price of £580 from JR Capstick, Ingleton who sold others at £550 as did M&S Blease, Carnforth. Suffolk shearlings achieved a top price of £500 from A Gardner, Bay Horse who had others at £400 closely followed by D Metcalfe, Dalton in Furness who sold at £380. Cross bred lambs achieved £400 for Beltex x from E Benn, Barnard Castle and J Bargh, Morecambe. Several aged rams forward today saw Texels sell to £400 from M Bowman, Kirkby Stephen with others from M Grunhill, Meathop selling at £380.
A small number of ram lambs were forward today with the best being a pen of Suffolks from Messrs Hewson, Carlisle selling between £350-£550, with J Park, Lancaster selling a Suffolk lamb at £250.
The next sale of breeding rams is the Lakeland Fair on Saturday the 16th October with entries now being taken.
