NWA Dairy sells heifer to £2620
North West Auctions held its monthly collective sale of dairy cattle at Lancaster Auction Mart on Tuesday 19th October, which saw a catalogue entry of in milk, in calf and young stock, attract a ringside of buyers keen to secure replacement stock.
The pre sale show was kindly judged by Mr Andrew Wilson, Fife, who found his Champion in Denhamhill Marley Annabel 4, shown by EH & R Eccles, Chorley. This heifer being bred from three generations of VG & EX cows sold for a final bid of £2280. The Reserve Champion was awarded to Goadsbarrow Wallen 10 from A V Lord & Co, Ulverston bred from two generations of VG & EX and showing real potential to make a fantastic cow.
The sale saw a top price for returning vendors JT & B Fox, Quernmore, this heifer had many sale ring admirers and saw a final bid of £2620. This heifer was closely followed by Wyredale Delta-lambda Monica 226 which saw a succesfull bid of £2500 from a returning Lancashire buyer. A trio of heifer from J H Towers & son, Carnforth sold to a top price of £2420 for Tunstall Rager Maggie red 4 and a single heifer this month from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyersdale, sold at £2120 for a heifer from the Poppy family.
A wide range of heifers today saw well grown heifers giving 32ltrs upwards generally selling at £1800 - £2000, with middle range heifers £1400 - £1700 and several lower yielding heifers at realisation, with an overall market average was £1785 for all heifers sold.
A consignment of heifer of calves from the Denhamhill Herd of EH & R Eccles saw a top price of £420 paid for Denhamhill Nominator Daisy, with another achieving £410 being Denhamhill Hotline Annabel daughter of today show Champion.
A feature of today’s sale was a consignment of cows from P Fargher who continues to disperse his cattle at this monthly sale
A fresh 2nd calved cow sold to £1700, with other in calf cows to £1400 for 2nd, £1280 for £3rd and £1120 for 4th.
The next monthly sale of pedigree and commercial dairy cattle at Lancaster Aution Mart with take place on the Tuesday 16th November.
