There was an increased number of buyers for all classes and types of pigs which saw a fast trade with vendors leaving pleased with prices achieved. With the promise of finer weather and a sociable summer, the prime pig trade is anticipated to remain buoyant with increasing demand.
Prime pigs sold to £135 for a Large White x gilt from GC & GW Taylor, Crook who sold other Large White x gilts and Saddleback gilts at £116. Large Black x gilts from Messrs Hodgson, Rydal achieved £110.
Prime boars sold to £106 for Large White x from W Stamper, Chipping with others at £90 from WL Bowness, Aspatria.
Several cull sows were forward selling to £155 for a Pietrain from S Phoenix, Preston with others £120 from W Stamper, Chipping.
Top spot in the p/kg was a wonderful Large White x gilt from W Stamper, Chipping selling at 154p/kg with the next best achieving 135p/kg from GC & GW Taylor, Crook.
Several customers, keen to secure stores and weaners, saw Mr J McEwan, Dumfries rewarded for his journey down with Large Black x gilts selling to £70 with other coloured and spotted gilts and boars selling at £62 and £42.
