Champion Pigs Sell to £175 at NWA J36
A feature of today’s sale was a special prize show for pairs of Prime pigs which saw 7 wonderful pairs put before the judge, Luke Worrall – Thomson on behalf of Bowland Beef Pork & Lamb Ltd.
The championship rosette was awarded to a pair of Pietrain x Saddleback hogs from BR Harrison, Staveley which reached a final bid of £175 to Mr Ian Brown as an Easter treat for his customers at Browns Quality Meats, Lindal. The reserve rosette was awarded to Mr D Lord, Preesall selling a pair of Large White x gilts at £135 purchased by the judge on behalf of Bowland Beef Pork & Lamb Ltd. The third prize rosette was awarded to a pair of Large White gilts from TA & DH Knipe, Oxen Park which sold at £122 to W Taylor & Son, Bamber Bridge.
Outwith the show a fast trade was seen for all classes and types with several new and returning buyers in attendance alongside the strong regular support.
Heavy weight pigs sold to £138 for Large White x gilts from TA & DH Knipe with Saddleback gilts from HMP Wymott, Walton achieving £125. Pietrain x hogs and gilts from BR Harrison sold at £125.
Top p/kg of 182p/kg was achieved for the Champions with other well finished pigs generally 120p/kg – 150p/kg with all sold averaging 132p/kg.
Increased demand for weaners saw Large White x gilts from first time vendors GM & DJ Pye, Arkholme sell to £40 with other Large White x gilts selling to £38 from M Eastham, Dalton. Pietrain x weaners from A & J Staveley, High Tatham sold at £22.
Store pigs sold to £32 for Large White x gilts from M Eastham, Dalton.
