The fortnightly sale of pigs at North West Auctions J36 saw a blistering hot trade for all classes and types with vendors leaving very suited for the prices achieved. Prime pigs sold to a top price of £182 per head for a pair of Pietrain x gilts for RJ & R Holden, Silecroft. Other prime gilts from W Stamper, Chipping sold to £150 for Large White x. Saddleback x gilts from M& S Blease, Carnforth sold to £140. Prime boars sold to a top price of £155 for a ¾ bred Pietrain from L J & R Atkinson, Holme with Large White x boars from GC & GW Taylor, Crook selling at £130, and £128 from W Stamper, Chipping. Top p/kg today was £152 for a Pietrain x gilt from R J & R Holden, with other well finished pigs regularly selling between 125-145p/kg. All prime pigs today averaged 125p/kg. A single cull boar today from R Dick, Preston sold at £110 and 31p/kg for an extreme heavy weight Saddleback.
Store and weaner pigs saw an admired trade, a pen of Saddleback x Large White mix from JM Navesey, Tockholes attracting many admirers with the gilts selling at £73 and the hoggs at £71. Other stores sold to £58 for Large White x gilts which had travelled down from Scotland.
The next sale of pigs is Tuesday 22nd June 2021 with another strong trade anticipated.
