PRIME PIGS SELL TO £128 PER HEAD AND £122P/KG AT NWA J36
The fortnightly sale of Prime pigs saw an entry of 47 forward with buyers in attendance keen to secure pigs for various trade, retail and catering outlets. A shortage of gilts today saw a top price of £128 achieved for a Large White x gilt from J Stott, Stainton and a pair of Large White x gilts from D Lord, Preesall, with other Large White x gilts selling to £120 from TA & DH Knipe, Oxen Park.
A large entry of prime boars saw a top price of £125 for Large White x Pietrain from TA & DH Knipe, Oxen Park with others at £108 from W Stamper, Chipping and £105 from A Threlkeld, Satterthwaite.
Several cull sows were forward today selling to £145 and £132 with cull boars selling to £102.
Weaners and stores continue to sell to a very competitive trade with Saddleback x gilts selling at £84, Saddleback x boars at £70, Large White x gilts to £77 and £74 for a pen of Large White x weaners achieving £32.
The next sale is Tuesday 10th August and vendors are strongly encouraged to pre-enter their pigs with the office to enable us to market your pigs appropriately.
