An increased entry of pigs were forward at the first sale of the month, with a fast and competitive trade experienced for all lots.

The sale peaked at £160 for heavyweight Pietrain x gilts from E Hardman, Preston who sold others at £122. Large White x gilts from AP Smith, Brookhouse sold at £120 as did others from W Stamper, Chipping. JM Navesey, Darwen sold the best of their gilts at £116 with Berkshire x from B Capstick, Sedbergh achieving £88.

Top p/kg for gilts was 136p/kg achieved by W Stamper with all sold averaging 116p/kg.

A pair of prime hogs from JM Navesey, Darwen sold at £130 and 124p/kg for Large White x.

Prime boars sold to £126 for Large White x from AP Smith, Brookhouse who sold others at £112. 126p/kg was achieved by AP Smith with W Stamper selling hers to 112p/kg. Lighter weight boars generally were 75p/kg – 85p/kg or £60 - £80.
