Calves and Stirks
J36’s fortnightly sale of calves had another good offering of 80 forward. Best calves continue to be very well bid for and selling to a fast trade. Middle beef calves continue to sell to a good trade with the younger types a slightly easier trade. Good black and whites were in short supply.
The run of British Blue bulls from HJ Robinson & Son, Preston Patrick led the way selling to £445. A great consignment of British Blue bulls from A Pickthall, New Hutton peaked at £440 with others from the same good home selling to £420. MJ & K Ayrton, Lancaster sold a 4 week old British Blue to £410. All Blue bulls forward averaged £360.
GCL Stephenson, Kirkby Lonsdale sold a wonderful run of Limousin bulls to a top of £350 with others to £320. Simmental bulls were all well bid for with a top of £385 from RF & CE Hodgson, Pennington with others from the same good home selling to £360. There were less native bred bulls about this morning with all well bid for, with Angus bulls selling to £300 from MJ & K Ayrton, Lancaster.
The best heifers were all well bid for with many going for future breeding. Limousin heifers peaked at £400. Gibson and Berry sold British Blue heifers to £370. RF & CE Hodgson, Pennington had another good run of Simmental heifers selling to a top of “90 with others to £260.
There were less dairy bred bulls forward today, with many more being needed to sell to vendors advantage. Fleckviehs sold to £110 from RG & JA Clark, Endmoor with Dairy Shorthorn to £100 from Messrs Robinson, Old Hutton.
A very mixed show of stirks were forward with all selling to full value. C Slater sold Dairy Shorthorn bullocks to £590. Kirkby & Longworth sold British Blue bullocks to £565.

Cull Cows/OTMs
Another strong entry of cows were forward today and selling to 129.5p/kg for a Stabiliser from A Dixon & Son, Selside with Limousin x selling to 124.5p/kg from P & SA Edmondson, Stainton and Simmental x from Matson Farms Ltd, Windermere.
Beef cows generally 112p/kg – 118p/kg for cows going for further feeding. Top grossing beef cow was an Aberdeen Angus x from JT Procter, Flookburgh achieving £1025.
Dairy cows sold to 119.5p/kg for Holstein Friesians from JM Barton & Son, Lupton and MH & AR Robinson, Old Hutton. Heavy dairy cows generally 105p/kg – 110p/kg with top grossing being £933 from MH & AR Robinson.
OTM heifers sold to 159.5p/kg from B & D Willison, & Son, Levens and £1060 from JE Read, Hutton Roof. OTM steers sold to 129.5p/kg and £918 again from JE Read.
Several cull bulls were sold peaking at 129.5p/kg for a Limousin from JM Barton & Son and £1205 for Aberdeen Angus from J & M Maudsley & Son.
Beef Breeding
The monthly catalogued sale of beef breeding cattle saw a competitive ring side of buyers in attendance, all keen to secure additional and replacement stock.
Several full and part dispersals were included in the sale which saw Simmental x cows with Limousin x heifer calves at foot from E Parker, Carnforth sell to £1600 who also sold in-calf British Blue x and Simmental x cows at £1120.
The 3 year old Limousin stock bull sold at £1900.
JE Stables & Son sold Simmental x cows with Limousin x bull calves to £1480 with others £1400, £1380 and cows with heifer calves to £1400 for Charolais x.
Aberdeen Angus x cows and heifers with Hereford x calves from B Holland, Tatham sold to £1120 with others £1050 - £1100. Others from the Millfield Stud, Settle sold at £1200 who also sold in-calf Aberdeen Angus x heifers at £1120.
Several Limousin x bulling heifers were forwards, selling to £1060 from R & RM Dent, Kirkby Stephen.
Store Cattle
The fortnightly sale of store cattle saw a seasonal entry forward and perhaps starting to show the effect of the recent change in seasons.
Steers sold to £900 for a British Blue x from RJ & R Holden, Millom who sold Hereford x steers at £890. A trio of 10 month old Charolais x steers from AW Irvine, Ambleside achieved £890. An entry of Aberdeen Angus x steers from JE Wightman, Lupton sold to £850 with Herefords from the same home £840 and Blonde x £830.
A run of 6 month old Limousin x steers from B Heyes, Mossborough sold to £730. Dairy bred steers sold to £680 for British Friesians from JR Corlett & Son, Cockermouth. A pen of White Park steers attracted specialist bidding interest selling to £690.
Heifers sold to £1040 for Aberdeen Angus x from JE Wright & Son, Knutsford who sold others at £980. British Blue x heifers from JE Wightman sold to £890. Suckler heifers from B Heyes sold to £750 for 6 month old Limousin x with others at £690 and Simmental x to £650 from W Caley & Son, Windermere.
Suckler bulls sold to £680 for 6 month old Simmental x from LA & M Lambert, Lupton.
The next sale of store cattle is Thursday 26th November with a special section for native bred cattle and suckled calves.
