Calves
A bigger show of calves were forward this morning, with 91 going through the ring. All calves forward meeting plenty of demand and were very well sold, with many more being needed to fulfil orders for a full ring side of buyers.
The sale peaked at £395 for British Blue bulls from B Mallinson & Son, Witherslack with other British Blue bulls from the same home selling to £380. NA Procter, Cartmel had a run of well grown Simmental calves topping at £380 and £375 for bulls. Aberdeen Angus bull calves were the trade of the day, topping at £365 from JAH Walton & Son, Kirkby Stephen. B & MJ Nelson & Son, Heversham had a run of Limousin calves topping at £320. Hereford bull calves peaked at £250 at 5 weeks old from Mason Birkland Barrow, Over Kellet.
A strong trade was seen for all types of heifer calves at J36 with many going on for further breeding. A sweet Charolais heifer from M & C Booth, Kentmere peaked at £360. British Blue heifers sold to £345 from Messrs Sowerby, Drybeck. A 4-week-old British Blue heifer from DW Cottam, New Hutton sold to £310 and Limousin heifers sold to £330 & £300 from B & MJ Nelson, Heversham. Native bred heifers again sold well with Aberdeen Angus to £300 from HJ Robinson & Son, Preston Patrick, Herefords to £230 from Mason Birkland Barrow, Over Kellet and Shorthorns to £250 from RG & JA Clark, Endmoor.
Dairy bulls sold to a flying trade with Fleckviehs to £235 from Messrs Sowerby, Drybeck. Black and Whites topped at £105 from RG & JA Clark, Endmoor. Strong types selling to £70 - £90, medium types £55 - £65 and small £20 - £32.
There was a nice show of stirks this morning with all meeting a flying trade. A run of Simmental heifers from Messrs Fell, Rampside topped this section at £700. British Blue bullocks at 6 months old peaked at £660 from GG & MA Long, Ulverston. Beef Shorthorn bullocks sold to £620 from M Kitching and S Smith, Limousin bullocks at 5 months old sold to £590 also from GG & MA Long, Ulverston. British Blue heifers peaked at £510 from A Stark.
Friesian bullocks sold to a strong trade peaking at £455 twice from M Kitching & S Smith with Dairy Shorthorn bullocks from the same home selling to £455 at 8-10 months old.
Many more stirks are needed to fulfil buyers orders.

Cast Cows
An uplift in the cow trade saw an overall average of 128p/kg achieved for another strong entry of cows.
Well fleshed beef cows sold to 164.5p/kg for an Aberdeen Angus from RJ & J Gardner, Natland with others for further finishing regularly 135p/kg – 148p/kg peaking at 151.5p/kg for a Limousin x from O & JR Dixon, Staveley.
Dairy cows sold to 147.5p/kg from CM & CS Chappelhow, Penrith with others 137.5p/kg from JM Barton & Son, Lupton, medium cows 110p/kg – 120p/kg.
Top grossing cow being £1144.60 from CM & CS Chappelhow very closely followed by JM Barton & Son achieving £1144.
Store Cattle
The end of May sale of store cattle at NWA J36 saw a competitive trade for all classes and types with buyers looking for cattle for both grazing and finishing.
Steers sold to £1110 for a Limousin x steer from B & R Barnes, Carnforth with other Limousin x steers achieving £1080 and £1030 from TW Nelson & Son, Stainton. Aberdeen Angus x steers sold to £940 again from TW Nelson & Son with grazing Aberdeen Angus x steers £835 from J & JA Burrow, Grayrigg.
Yearling steers sold to £870 for a Limousin x from JT Procter, Flookburgh with others £845 from GM Strong, Penrith and £840 B & M Slater, Chipping. A pair of Charolais x steers (7m) from AMS Robinson, Staveley sold at £790 with other Charolais x £695 from GJ Ibbetson, Lancaster.
Dairy bred steers sold to £835 for Fleckvieh from Messrs Sowerby, Appleby with British Friesian £750 from B Wilson, Crosthwaite.
Heifers sold to £1030 for a trio of Limousin x from TW Nelson & Son, Stainton. FA Brown & Son Ingleton sold Aberdeen Angus x to £845. Yearlings sold to £785 for a Limousin x from JT Procter, Flookburgh who sold others at £710 and Charolais x £700 from AMS Robinson, Staveley.
