Spring Lambs
The weekly sale of Prime Lambs had a reduced entry this week of 1264 forward. The trade remains very strong for the time of year especially following on from the EID festival at the weekend. There was a strong market average of 211p/kg achieved. Leading the way this week was heavy weight Texel lambs from A & J Robinson, Yealand Redmayne selling to £129 with Charollais from the same home to £128. 50kg Texels sold to £112.50 from J Stott Jnr, Crosscrake with other Texel lambs selling to £111.50 from T & M Halhead, Priest Hutton with £111 achieved by DM & RM Willison, Westhouse and by WR Clarke & Partners, Yealand Redmayne. Plenty of pen of heavy weight Texel lambs sold in the region of £110. Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £110 from DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland followed by £109 from M Robinson, Lowgill. Charollais lambs sold to £108 from J Stott Jnr and £107 from JG & BJ Escolme, Killington for heavy weight lambs.
Handy weighted, well-fleshed Continental lambs regularly sold between 215p/kg and 222p/kg. Leading the way this week was Charollais lambs selling to 245p/kg from RR & JA Knowles, Docker closely followed by Texels to 244p/kg from RI Dixon, Low Newton.
Upland lambs saw Mules sell to a top of £97 from GA Guy, Tebay. All Mule lambs forward averaged just over 200p/kg mark.
Prime Hoggs
There was a small entry of hoggs forward this week that saw 25 forward consisting of Shetland and Hebrideans from CL & AM Mason, Tewitfield selling to £60.
Cast Ewes
There was an entry of 368 cast ewes forward selling to a stronger trade than expected following EID festival. Strong Continental ewes sold £90 plus topping at £100 for Suffolk ewe from AJ Robinson, Silverdale with strong Texel ewes selling to £99 from J Stott Jnr, Crosscrake with Beltexs just behind at £98 from J Barber, Hornby. Mule ewes were the strongest trade on they day with the biggest selling at £82 with a top of £90 from M Moorhouse, Grange over Sands. Other Mules sold to £89 from KE Richards & Son, Howgill. Medium type ewes sold around the £70 mark with the feeding types £55 plus.
There was a smaller show of Swaledale ewes this afternoon, topping twice at £58 from TA & JA Dixon, Selside. Also achieving the same price was JA & CA Gibson, Selside with plenty of strong Mule ewes selling into the fifties.
