Breeding Sheep
A special sale of Gimmer Hoggs and breeding sheep saw more interest ringside than expected, leading to a sharp trade. Mule gimmer hoggs sold to a top of £86, £84 twice and £83 from EI, EA & TW Wilson, Flookburgh, with Continental Gimmer Hoggs from the same home selling to £80. All gimmer hoggs forward sold to a market average of £80.39.
A handful of in-lamb sheep on offer saw Mules sell to £90 from SM & CM Bewley, Dent.
Store Hoggs
The final sale of Store Hoggs of the season had an entry of 500 forward in which more were expected and could have been sold to the advantage of vendors with some buyers leaving empty handed and short. Short term hoggs sold in excess of the £70 mark. Topping the market today were Suffolks from E Parker, Crag Bank with Texels selling to £79 from PG Thornton, Scorton and £78 from B Clark, Grange-over-Sands. Mules sold to a top of £71 from RA Clegg & LD Bennet, Seathwaite with others selling to £70 from RG & H Preece, Roeburndale West. Longer term hoggs sold to £70 for Beltexs from MA & JA Winn, Burneside. Hill bred hoggs sold to a top of £61 for Herdwicks from N Beach, Burton-in-Kendal with Rough Fells selling to £54 from AC & C Thexton, Lowick Bridge. There was an overall market average of £56.68.
