J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: Early Breeding Sheep & Store Lambs - Thursday 1st August

Breeding Sheep

The early sale of Breeding Sheep at NWA J36 saw an entry of 200 forward with a competitive trade seen for all classes and types with buyers keen to secure sheep for early breeding. The sale topped at £162 from Texel x Shearlings from J Stott Jnr, Kendal who also sold Charollais x Shearlings at £152. Texel x shearlings from EI, EA & TW Wilson, Grange over Sands sold to a top price of £131. Several consignments of Mule Shearlings forward sold to £130 from M & YS Barker, Holton who sold others to £128.

A large proportion of the sale comprised of older ewes which were strong demand. The sale topped at £102 for one crop Texel x Beltex ewes from RL & LE Kendal, Penrith. Older ewes sold to £96 for 3 crop Mules from TE & A Galbraith, Crooklands who sold 4 crop Mule to £87 and 4 crop Texels at £88. All ewes forward averaged £88 and all shearlings averaged £132.

Plenty of interest in breeding sheep at this early sale with vendors encouraged to enter stock with confidence for the Great Annual Show & Sale of Breeding Ewes & Gimmer Shearlings at J36 on Saturday 24th August.

Store Lambs

The second sale of Store Lambs of the season saw an entry of 1783 selling to a full ringside of buyers keen to secure store lambs of all classes and types and many more could have been sold to the vendors advantage. The sale topped at £74 for Texel x lambs from DV Carrick, Kirkby Stephen with other well-grown short keep lambs generally £65 to £72. Medium keep lambs were generally £55 to £63. Hill bred lambs sold to a top price of £69 for Cheviots from SEW Temple, Quernmore. An increased number of Mules forward sold to £57 from E Parker, Carnforth and RI Dixon, Grange over Sands with others £51 to £55. All Store Lambs today averaged £56.23.
