J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: Store Cattle - Thursday 6th September

Store Cattle

There was a smaller entry of store cattle with many holding off for the September Continental sale on Thursday 20th September, with over 500 already entered for the sale. There was plenty of interest ringside for the cattle forward with Angus steers selling to £690 and £680 from JH & A Metcalfe of Sedbergh.

Calves

There was an entry of sixty calves forward this week. There was a varied trade with strong calves good to sell, especially calves that are fit for breeding with there being plenty of demand ringside for black and white calves.

The trade topped at £355 from JAH Walton and Son of Kaber with British Blue heifers, this was closely followed by £330 from DR & C Galbraith of Grayrigg. Biritish Blue bulls topped at £300, again, from DR & C Galbraith. Plenty of beef calves selling around the mid £200s. Dairy bred bull calves sold to a top of £155 from R & J Dodgson of Natland. Black and white bull calves twice topped at £100 from A Pickthall of New Hutton.

Cast Cows and OTM Cattle

The was a good trade for OTM Cattle at J36 with an entry just short of thirty forward selling to an overall market average of 124p/kg with nothing selling under the 100p/kg mark. The trade was topped by Stabiliser cows from A Dixon and Son of Selside selling to 184.5p/kg and 179.5p/kg. Plenty of beef cows selling around the 140p/kg mark. Black and white cows sold to a top of 121p/kg from JM Barton and Son of Lupton with all black and whites selling to an average of 112p/kg. The trade topped at £1198 from TM & D Dobson of Crossthwaite for Shorthorn bull with angus cows to £1180 from MJ & JD Handley of Sedbergh.

Breeding Cattle

The monthly sale of breeding cattle had an entry of a couple of breeding bulls and a dozen cows and calves. The trade topped at £1400 for Hereford Breeding bull from N & L Cummings of Holmbrook. Cows with calves at foot sold to a top of £1120 from RM Clark of Grange over Sands.
