The annual show and sale of registered Fell ponies on behalf of the Fell Pony Society had a catalogue entry of 101. This sale once again created plenty of interest with buyers and on looks present from throughout the British Isles. A packed ring witnessed the sale which saw best ponies in strong demand.
The pre-sale judging was in the capable hands of Judith Fairburn who we thank for their time and expertise. The championship rosette was awarded to the Roberts family of Tebay, with lot 39 Bybeck Vincent a bay colt sired by Wellbrow Lancashire Lad, this later went onto sell for 700gns. Reserve champion was awarded to lot 46 a bay Filly Bowins Nancy from J Miller Jnr, Ulverston, this was sired by Brocklebank Absinthe. The sale was topped by AW Morland, Kirkby Stephen with lot 51 Lunesdale Celine a black Filly, sired by Lunesdale Union Jack, going on to sell for 1400gns. Other foals which broke the 1000gns barrier was lot 77 from E & H Winder, Kirkby Stephen with Dalewin Vesper, a grey Colt sired by Lunesdale Black Ice II selling to 1200gns. Also achieving 1000gns was lot 99 Greenholme May Blossom from RJ & BK Potter, Tebay.
In class one, ponies four years old or above, saw the trade topped at 1200gns for lot 10 Restar Lucky Mike a black Gelding from Mrs D Bradley, Ennerdale with others from the same good home selling to 1050gns for Restar Lucky Jerry.
The sale of society registered Mountain and Moorland ponies and part-breds had a catalogue entry of 38. The trade was topped for a 4 year old Native x Cob Gelding from GT Hodgson, Witherslack selling to 920gns. There was a very strong trade for Shetland ponies with a miniature Skewbald Filly Foal, Lunespring Kyra, from J Richardson, New Biggin on Lune selling to 440gns.
There was 400 items of tack forward for the sale which saw the majority of items well bid for with plenty of interest which saw Pony driving harnesses sold to a top of £155.
