Store Cattle
There was a good trade throughout the sale at Lancaster with all types of store cattle in strong demand. Plenty good quality Continental bullocks on offer saw the £1,400 mark broken regularly. British Blues sold to a top of £1460 from RC Billington and Son of Claughton on Brock, with Limousins selling to £1450 from DE & SM Moorhouse of Natland. As always, a good trade for native bred cattle saw Angus bullocks selling to £1430 from JD & GM Bracken of Catterall. The heifer trade topped at £1250 for British Blues from RC Billington and Son of Claughton on Brock. Black and white bullocks topped at £1110 from L Parsons and Sons of Levens.
OTM Cattle
A smaller entry of cast cows on offer sold to a very strong trade with more required to meet buyers required. Plenty of cows sold over the £1000 mark topping at £1204 for British Blue cows from RHM & S Boyren of Ulverston closely followed by £1197 for Simmental cows from JE Bracken of St Michaels. Dairy cows sold to a top of £1184 from Drinkall Bros of Over Wyresdale. There was a very impressive sale average of 130p/kg, so keep them cows coming and take advantage of this trade.
Calves and Stirks
A larger entry of calves and stirks on offer today saw a very buoyant trade throughout and more could have been easily sold to the advantage of the vendor. Topping today was British Blue bulls selling to £495 and £490 from CF Morton and Son of Samlesbury with heifers from the same home selling to £425 and £410. All British blue bulls forward sold to an average £424 with heifers averaging £375. Montbeliarde bulls sold to £225 and £205 from JR Newsham and Son of Conder Green.
The entry of stirks were in strong demand from a busy ring of buyers with British Blue heifers ten month old selling to £620 from JR Newsham and Son of Conder Green with Hereford heifers from the same home selling £510. Seven month old Angus bulls sold to £615 from S Mawson and Son of Penrith.
