There was a good entry of over 600 store hoggs forward for this week’s sale. There was a variety of hoggs in today with quality and size. The recent rise in prime hogg trade has led to a strong trade for short-term and well-fleshed hoggs with smaller and long-term hoggs harder to place.
The trade topped at £71 for Suffolk hoggs from PG Thornton of Cliftons Farm with fit, short-term hoggs. Beltex hoggs topped the trade at £70 from JB & CJ Little of Penrith, closely followed by Texels selling to £69 from T Sharp of Gateside Farm. There was plenty of well-fleshed and short keep hoggs selling into the sixties. Medium keep hoggs sold in the mid to late fifties. An entry of medium to longer keep Mule hoggs sold to £55 from T Sharp of Gateside Farm.
The next sale of store hoggs will take place on Thursday 1st February 2018 with entries for catalogue closing Wednesday 24th January 2018.
