The opening sale of store hoggs of the New Year had an entry of just short of 1,000 forward. There was plenty of interest ring side, especially with the current weather conditions, seeing old and new faces present ensuring a strong trade throughout. There was a large amount of hoggs looking weathered which is understandable following the dreadful weather we have endured recently.
The trade topped at £78 for Beltex hoggs from BJ Bowness of Blea Tarn, with Texels and Suffolks selling to a top of £75 from TA Teasdale of Head House for hoggs close to finishing with short term lambs often selling in the mid to late sixties. Masham hoggs sold to a top of £67.50 from W & J Penny of Marsh Grange Farm with a pen of 41 Mule hoggs from PW Clarke of Woodside Farm selling to £64. A buoyant trade was enjoyed for all sizes of hoggs.
The next sale of store hoggs will take place on Thursday 18th January 2018 with entries for catalogue closing Wednesday 10th January 2018.
