J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: North West Texel Breeders Club Show & Sale

Sunday 12th August

North West Auctions were once again proud to host the annual show and sale of pedigree Texels on behalf of the North West Texel Breeders Club. There was the largest entry seen for some time for this sale, consisting of 55 Rams and 95 Females, which continues to grow in reputation.

The pre-sale judging was in the capable hands of Mr S Symes of the Anglezarke flock who had a strong line up of sheep entered for the show. The largest entry saw 20 forward for the gimmer shearlings class. The overall Championship was awarded to PK & R Woof of Stainton with lot 76A, a gimmer shearling. The Reserve Championship was awarded to Messrs RS & J Bradley and Son of Far Way Farm with their gimmer shearling lot 110, this was sired by ‘Millar’s Who’s The Boy’.

The trade was topped by PK & R Woof of Stainton with their pen of Shearling rams, topping at 1,150gns was Stainton Am Yours, sired by Knock Yankee, this was closely followed by Stainton Apache selling to 1,100gns by the same sire. Shearling rams sold to a market average of 781gns.
Ram lambs sold to a top of 850gns for the first placed ram lamb from Ryan Bradley of Far Hey farm with Bradleys Bandit sired by Teiglum Young Gun. All ram lambs forward sold to a market average 408gns.

The sale is gaining a good reputation for females, with a larger entry forward this year. The trade was not as strong as the previous years due to purchasers being slightly less confident at the moment with the current grass situation. The trade topped at 1,000gns from R Wilson of Appleby with lot 100 with a gimmer shearling sired by Knock Yankee out of an Anglezarke Uno ewe. Gimmer shearlings sold to an overall market average of 418gns. The winning gimmer lamb lead the trade, a substitute lot, from Selwyn and Tomos Evans of Carmarthenshire from their Welsh flock selling to 700gns. All gimmer lambs forward sold to an overall average of 382gns.

A flock reduction on behalf of IM Jaeban of the Forth House Flock sold to a top of 480gns for a gimmer shearling sired by Forth House Viva.

Thanks go to the North West Texel breeders club for organising additional events on the day, especially to Gemma Brown for her hard work and efforts in organising the Charity auction in aid of the North West Air Ambulance. The trade topped at £520 for a flushing programme or AI programme donated by Ribble Vets. A quantity of semen on offer topped at £105 a straw for Teiglum Young Gun donated by Charlie Boden of Sportsmans. Thanks goes to all involved for their generosity. A big thank you goes to Peter and Rosemary Woof for providing the Hog roast.
