Prime Lambs
A slightly smaller entry of prime lambs sold to a strong trade, with lamb numbers less nationwide, leading to stronger demand.
Beltex type lambs continue to meet plenty of demand at J36 with numerous purchasers looking for these type of lambs. Today’s sale was topped by a Beltex selling to 215.6p/kg or £97 from JG Harryman of Hawkshead with others from TS & SM Park of Millom selling a pen to 209.5p/kg and JG & PH Thompson of Selside selling a pen to 208.1p/kg. All Beltex Lambs forward today sold to an overall average of 194.75p/kg.
Texel Lambs sold to 208.5p/kg from TR Prickett of Hutton Roof with others from the same home selling to 196.7p/kg. Suffolk’s topped at £90 from RHM & S Boyren of Colton with a pen of 30 Suffolk Lambs from F & SA Edmondson of Ulverston selling to 182.3p/kg or £87.50.
Heavy Weight Lambs sold to 202.2p/kg again from JG Harryman of Hawkshead.
Mule Lambs sold to £86 from F & SA Edmondson of Ulverston with all Mule Lambs forward selling to an average of £63.18.
Cast Sheep
There was a similar entry of cast ewes forward this week, selling to a similar trade with a large quantity of ewes still available nationwide.
Well fleshed and meaty Continental and Mule ewes sold to a noticeable sharper trade than seen over the previous weeks.
Texel Ewes topped the market at £102 from P Cummings of Holme with other Texels selling to £98 and £94 from D Wood of Rivington. Mule ewes sold to £72 from AT Threlkeld Ltd of Satterthwaite, with others from FE & CM Robinson of Crooklands selling to £71.
A larger entry of horned ewes forward saw Swaledales selling to £44 for a pen from Calderside Farms of Garstang.
