Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Weekly Sale of Calves, OTM Cattle & Store Cattle, Friday 18th April 2025.

CALVES

Calves and stirks to £1280.
Bull calves to £910 for British Blues from AJ Metcalf, Out Rawcliffe with Aberdeen Angus cross from this home to £900. Others in this consignment were £890, £870 and £850. Herefords sold to £710 and £700 from JR Newsham, Conder Green with black and whites from this home to £680. Younger sorts to £680 for month old British Blues from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale and Walmsley Beef, Cockerham with six week old Aberdeen Angus to £600 from JP&C Robson, Brock.
Heifer calves reached £670 for six week old British Blues from JP&C Robson, Brock with Aberdeen Angus to £630 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe. Month old British Blue sold to £610 from Walmsley Beef, Cockerham with Herefords to £590, £550 and £530 from JR Newsham, Conder Green.
Stirks quite scintillating, topping at £1280 for a trio of British Blue heifers from Throstle Nest Farms, Pilling with others to £1240 from this good home. Bullocks sold to £1190 for Aberdeen Angus from CD&HL Mason, Mearsbeck with others Aberdeen Angus to £1160 x3 from WJ&EA Woodhouse, Nateby.

Stores maintain recent momentum.

Bullocks averaged £2155

Bullocks continue to sell to extreme rates despite a slightly less powerful show forward. Top price was £2820 for a single Fleckvieh from EJ Hodgson, Lambrigg with a pair of British Blues next at £2650 from J&O Galbraith, Endmoor. Limousins sold to £2650 from DE&SM Moorhouse, Natland with Aberdeen Angus to £2580 from TJ Lloyd, Settle. Simmentals sold to £2400 from J Prest & Son, Lancaster with Black and Whites to £2350 from K&DE Woodhouse, Ellel.
Heifers sold to £2500 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe with Limousin to £2450 x2 from A&MI Robinson, Orton. Black and Whites achieved £2350 from K&DE Woodhouse, Elle with British Blues to £2300 from DW&EA Cottam, New Hutton. R&E Ladds, Kendal sold Simmentals to £2200 x2 with Herefords to £2120 from AT Burrow & Son, Gressingham.

CAST / OTM CATTLE

The weekly sale of OTM cattle saw a reduced entry on the week, after last weeks bumper entry. Vendors cautious of the bank holiday, but those that did brave the trade were well rewarded with their trade.
Cast steers led the way today from JD EM JA Atkinson, Skelsmergh at £2499.58 or 384.5p/kg. Friesian steers achieved £2257.68 or 339.5p/kg from R&E Ladds, Kendal.
Top price per head in the OTM cows was EW&RM Towers, Hornby with a Friesian cow at £2434.45 or 279.5p/kg. Other Friesians from loyal Lancaster supporters EW&CR Clegg & Sons, Stalmine achieved £2164 or 269.5p/kg. Beef bred cows saw British Blues from R&A Easterby, Westhouse to £2414 or 324.5p/kg, with this home also selling Limousins at £2047 or 324.5p/kg.
OTM heifers saw plenty of trade, topping at 384.5p/kg or £2307 from AT Burrow, Gressingham for a British Blue. Other beef bred heifers sold to £2254 or 379.5p/kg from TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe. Friesian heifers from EW&CR Clegg, Stalmine sold to £2228 or 359.5p/kg, with other Friesian heifers to 324.5p/kg from L Parsons & Sons, Leven.

OTM cows averaged 261p/kg.
OTM heifers averaged 360p/kg.
Cast steers averaged 363p/kg.

More cattle are required next week to satisfy buyer’s demand.
