NWA Lancaster catches the trade again, with the new start time of 10am.
PRIME LAMBS
Vendors from the three local counties descending on Lancaster and were duly rewarded, with a market average of 297.25p/kg for all lambs sold, ranging from 33kg to 55kg. Once again, well bred and well finished lambs were keenly sort after selling to a top price of 414p/kg and £182 for Charollais cross Beltex lambs from CF Hargreaves, Overton with other best bred lambs regularly selling at 340p/kg to 365p/kg and £150 to £170 per head. Well finished first cross lambs sold to 355p/kg for Texel cross from DR Preston, Caton who sold others at £170. Other well finished first cross lambs were regularly 300p/kg to 320p/kg, depending on weight and finish, this equating to £122 to £135. Light weigh lambs sold to 324p/kg for Texel cross from R Collinge & Son, Kirkham who sold other at £120, with other well bred light weight lambs 290p/kg to 300p/kg, being £98 to £110.
Hill bred lambs are now coming forward in greater numbers, with Mules selling to £134.50 and 284p/kg, with others 275p/kg to 285p/kg depending on weight and finish.
More lambs are required every week to satisfy the expanding ring side of buyers.
CAST SHEEP
Cull ewes sold to a top price of £192 for a Texel cross from S Rossall, Over Wyresdale with other medium first cross ewes £130 to £145. Best heavy Mules sold to £136, with medium types £90 to £110 and leaner grazing types £75 to £88. Hill ewes sold to £100 for Cheviot, with lighter and leaner Swaledales selling to £58.
