PRIME HOGGS
An increased entry of hoggs forward, which saw all types sell to a sharper trade on the week. Heavy hoggs saw Texels sell to £161 from SH&LE Birkett, Nether Kellet who sold other pens to £159 and £158. Charollais sold to £157 from Cardwell Farms, Stalmine. Heavy Continental hoggs were regularly £150 plus. Beltex hoggs sold to £157 from KA Purtill, Wigan who sold others to £154. Best pens sold to 365p/kg from AG Butler, Hambleton who sold other pens to 360p/kg. The best bred hogg were regularly 340p/kg to 360p/kg. A ring full of Mashams sold to £148.50 from T&D Wright, Wray with Cheviots to £147 from SH&LE Birkett, Nether Kellet. A pen of 40kg Mules from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth sold to £127.50 or 319p/kg.
Light weight hoggs were in keen demand with these regularly selling at 310p/kg to 330p/kg. A pen of 39kg Texels from S Rossall, Over Wyresdale sold to £126.
CAST SHEEP
More ewes forward today, with all selling to a fast trade on the week. Texels sold to £182 from Cardwell Farms, Stalmine who sold other pens to £180. First cross Texel ewes sold to £170 from CD&HL Mason, Caton. Gritstone sold to £130 from Cardwell Farms, Stalmine with Mules to £128 from S Rossall, Over Wyredale. The best Mules were generally £110 to £115. A ring full of Cheviots sold to £101 from SE&J Gorst, Littledale with medium weight Swaledale ewes selling to £55 from D Gardner, Lancaster.
