Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Auction Mart Sale of Calves, OTM and Store Cattle, Friday 1st September 2023.

- Weaned calves to £655
- Cull cattle to 259p/kg and £1771
- Store Steers to £1880
- Store Heifers to £1820

CALVES & WEANLINGS

Another strong trade for all classes and types of calves. Rearing bull calves sold to £405 for an Aberdeen Angus x from Wallbank Farms Ltd, Over Wyresdale with others nicely selling at £320 to £380. Smaller and younger calves were generally £250 to £300.
Heifer calves sold to £295 for a month old Charolais x from JE&S Seedall, Mellor with British Blue x £285 from Wallbank Farms Ltd, Over Wyresdale who also sold Aberdeen Angus x at £270. Younger heifers were £180 to £220.
Dairy bulls sold to £135 for nice rearing sorts from WD&D Smith & Son, Cockerham with others £100 to £120. The smallest and youngest were £20 to £40.
Weaned and reared calves attracted a keen interest, selling to £655 for a Limousin x heifer, with British Blue x bulls selling to £630, £610 and heifers £540. Recently weaned Hereford bulls sold to £470 and heifers to £355.

CULL CATTLE

Cull cows sold to a top price of 259p/kg for a British Blue x from D&DW Prickett, Farleton with other well finished beef cows 210p/kg to 235p/kg and feeding types 175p/kg to 195p/kg. Top grossing beef cow was a Simmental from Barlow Bros, Croston totalling £1556.
Dairy cows sold to 181p/kg for a Fleckvieh from R&K Jenkinson, Pilling with an MRI at 179.5p/kg from Barlow Bros, Croston, Holstein Friesian at 174p/kg from J&N Hull & Sons, Winmarleigh and Brown Swiss at 169.5p/kg from EJ Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg. Top grossing dairy achieved £1274 from Barlow Bros, Croston.
OTM heifers sold to 224p/kg for a Holstein Friesian from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham and £1406 from Richmond Hall Farm Ltd, Cockerham.
Steers sold to 204p/kg from DH&M Kellet & Sons, Thurnham and £1486 from I Atkinson & Son, Warton.
Cull bulls sold to 169p/kg and £1771 for a Simmental from EW&A Bradshaw, Stalmine.

STORE CATTLE

A rise in the store cattle trade saw vendors leaving well suited with prices achieved. Steers sold to a top price of £1880 for a pair of Limousin x from Pilling Hall Farm, Pilling with others at £1860 for Charolais x from JD&GM Bracken, Catterall and Simmental x from T&M Halhead, Carnforth. Native sired steers sold to £1760 for an Aberdeen Angus x from JS Clark & Sons, Catforth who also sold Hereford x at £1640. Dairy bred steers peaked at £1640 for a Fleckvieh from J&H Bland & Son, Levens who also sold MRI at £1480. British Friesians steers sold to £1360 from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton.
Heifers sold to £1820 for a Limousin x from E Rossall, Preesall. Closely followed by Charolais x from B&J Preston, Caton achieving £1800. Other stronger heifers were £1400 to £1550 with natives selling to £1590 for an Aberdeen Angus from JT&GV Dodson, Grindleton.
An entry of feeding bulls sold to £1080 for 10 month old Simmental x.
